Rebecca Skloot is a freelance writer, contributing editor at Popular Science magazine, and sometimes-correspondent for NPR's RadioLab. I used to sometimes know the (cell) phone was going to ring right before it did, I think from the heightened electromagnetic field that happens right before the ring when a call comes through. I don't use it as much now so it hasn't happened lately.
That's just speculation, though.
