Rebecca Skloot is a freelance writer, contributing editor at Popular Science magazine, and sometimes-correspondent for NPR's RadioLab. Oh no, people DO regularly get run over outside the Empire State Building and everywhere else in New York. It's amazing! In the 3 years I've lived here, I've seen five people get hit by cars (the most recent was yesterday) ... you're right, it's more likely that a car will jump onto the sidewalk and kill you in NYC than it is an alligator will eat you in Florida. But still! Aligators eating people while they're jogging?! That's too much.
